Project Schedule Management and Fitness

Schedule management is something that needs to be conducted properly and effectively in the beginning of the project as well as everything during the project. Project schedule management really encompasses the duties that need to fulfilled by team members, how long in terms of time will said and assigned duties take, assigning and keeping track of resources used to complete the tasks making sure they are used efficiently and effectively for the project, information pertaining to the tasks being performed such as characteristics the tasks may have, including milestones for the project, and addressing any connections certain tasks may have to one another. One example is, a team member needs certain information for the project which is only obtained from the completion and execution of a previous task. Schedule management really is just all encompassing the organization of tasks or activities making sure that every assigned task is able to be completed from all stakeholders involved with the project.

Project schedule management can be related to fitness in various ways. One way is if an individual would like to look more lean during the summer showing off their hard work but they still want to gain muscle or strength. Well, this is a very common process a lot of body builders and other gym enthusiast perform. This relates to schedule management because if you were to break the process up in to two sections, lean process and muscle building processes. There is a timeline and a lot of planning out when a person would perform prior activities. Let’s start with the process of trying to become lean for the summer or any other reason someone might have to make their body more lean. First you would have to plan out your meals for the weeks and possibly months depending on how your body reacts to changes in your diet. Every persons’ body is different, so you never really know what kind of reactions your body would have unless you just start with something. You would also need to make sure your diet is in line with the write workouts as well. Then on to the workouts themselves, starting with increasing the intensity of cardio or endurance training exercises. Increasing the volume of the workout program is also a way to help with the process of becoming more lean. Volume could also address the reps of specific sets of exercises such as 4-5 sets with 15-20 reps of squats. Requiring less rest between sets (obviously giving yourself enough to recover) by gradually decreasing the amount of time it takes to rest could contribute some to the process as well. Also, giving your body enough time to adapt to the changes will need to taken into consideration as well. Giving enough time for the change in diet and the workout plan to affect your body is crucial to make sure that your body is as lean as possible for the summer or for other kinds of events.

Now onto the building muscle phase of a fitness journey and structuring this project or process in relation to establishing schedule management techniques. Most people would conduct this project or process after the summer season has come to an end. The way muscle building is performed touches on the same topics as discussed prior in regards to becoming lean. Diet is changed due to different goals set for gaining muscle and strength. Diet is also changed due to the workout program changes structuring around strength and size increases. One example of this could be 3-4 sets with 5-8 reps with heavy weight. In this phase of body transformation, you are trying to gain muscle and strength therefore you need to lift heavier with less volume. You can tie this in with a timeline in terms of getting stronger before next summer when you lean out again or possibly for special sporting events, etc. Another aspect in scheduling management that can apply to fitness is the possibility of an injury occurring to an individual from workout which then forces a change in the program to address the injured areas of the body. If you were to treat this fitness project formally, a change request would have to be performed requiring a change in the workout program which then can affect numerous tasks such as the exercises themselves, possibly diet due to a reduction in workout intensity and volume of exercises. Then the deadlines for those tasks to be completed prior to meeting the goal in mind must adjust to the injured body part. Also, this change in schedule can apply to different reasons other than injury such as recovery which is needed to prevent injury and increase the benefit of working out. You could uses these techniques in the larger scale by referring the schedule management to a team surrounding an athlete and trying to make sure they are able to achieve their goals along with the teams. External dependencies are another factor to be considered especially if you are an athlete because you might have extracurricular activities performed outside of the gym and injuries or outside obligations can interfere with the progress of the fitness project.

You could also apply this scheduling management concept to running a gym business and setting up projects for establishing new equipment for gym members to use and possibly other amenities for the gym members to take advantage of while they workout in the gym. The scheduling for setting up new equipment in a gym would look something like, setting what type of equipment should arrive first in reference to the layout a gym owner whats the gym to have. One example would be setting up big equipment such as joined cable machines in the sent of the room with the most available space for gym members. Then with benches and racks following the outside perimeter of the building therefore you would want to consider setting up the big equipment first so that the other equipment is not in the way if you were to set up the big equipment after setting up the smaller surrounding equipment. Then you would have to consider the type of team to establish in relation to tasks assigned to specified members such as having stronger employees that can lift heavier items with ease setting up the bigger equipment first and then other employees helping with the set up of the lighter or smaller equipment after.

Overall, project schedule management really sets the boundaries of a project with transparency and understanding of what is being done and when the tasks need to be performed.
